Customer Focus: Gavitt Wire & Cable Company

For over 80 years, Gavitt Wire & Cable Company, a family-owned business located in Brookfield, Massachusetts, has been providing companies with made-to-order wire, cable, retractile cords, and other specialty products and services.

When the dual winders on its extruder line no longer provided sufficient tension to wind quality reels of cable, Ed Timilty, the company’s maintenance supervisor, suspected that the drive system could not develop the needed torque.

Knowing that the drive controller was obsolete and replacement parts were not available, Ed called Stan Jarosz of Electro Drive Systems with a challenge. Could EDS solve the problem while not changing the winder operation, reusing the highest possible number of components, keeping a lid on costs, and limiting downtime during installation?

After talking with the operators and studying wiring diagrams that showed unidentified components being used in a unique fashion, Stan supplied a new system that exceeded Gavitt’s expectations.
